Centenarian Joyce joins Care Home Management magazine’s 100 issues celebration

Care Home Management

Centenarian, Joyce Hyman (pictured) is just one of the care home residents who will be joining us to celebrate 100 issues in our November/December issue.

Care Home Management has invited residents who have a 100th birthday this year to join in our special issue.

Joyce who currently resides in Willow Tree House at Heathlands Village, has what staff describe as a youthful spirit and a positive outlook on life. Despite some problems with her eyesight and her hearing, she is still very much a social butterfly.

Priding herself on her appearance, it is no surprise that Joyce had a flourishing career in a fashion house, Maurice Jaffe’s. Starting off aged 14 as a salesgirl, she briefly left to join the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service at the height of the war as a ‘pencil pusher’. Afterwards she returned to the fashion house where she climbed the ranks and became a buyer specialising in dresses. Later in her life she returned to the sales floor – albeit selling kitchens at her son-in-law's firm.

Joyce was a late bloomer in love, yet nonetheless happily wedded twice - despite her parents' fears. She has also formed great relationships with her stepchildren, and grandchildren.

Joyce believes that the key to a long and happy life is to say ‘yes’ to opportunities, to join in and be sociable.

Or, in her own words ‘just enjoy life’.

We’re inviting care home staff, residents and suppliers with a special 100 story to tell to get in touch.

Just email the editor with a few details and we’ll be in touch: Editorial@chmonline.co.uk
